St. Louis Science Center Trip : This is a trip to the Big Island of Hawaii that was sponsored by the St. Louis Science Center in September, 2008. It is one of a number of trips on the "Science of National Parks" that Ron Giesler of the SLSC runs. John E. joined the trip to explain the geology. We visited several places on the Big Island, but spent most of our time in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Thanks to Don Swanson of the USGS-Hawaii Volcanoes Observatory for explaining many of the details of the park geology.

Ann Arbor trip 2008 : Cindy's Ph.D. adviser, Doug Foster, retired in the summer of 2008. There was a big reunion of former students in Ann Arbor, Michigan, as part of the event. Karina and I tagged along. It was nice to visit our old haunts.
